Chess at school in Piemonte

“Chess at school in Piemonte” project was born in 2005 with the Compagnia di San Paolo and the Piemontese Regional Assessorship of Educational and professional Formation fundamental support, it is a model of our region’s excellence for the qualitative and quantitative standard reached, it has brought Piemont at the avant guarde in the scholastic chess diffusion in Italy and it is situated among the main plans in the international field.
During the school session 2007-2008 the project has overall involved 229 schools, 912 classes and 17.486 students, from primary to secondary lower and upper sections, for a total of 11.267 hours of lessons realized thanks to the work of 12 chess clubs, coordinated by the Piemontese Regional Committee – F.S.I.
It is not only the numbers, which in the last three years have pointed out a 40% increasing of the students’ presence and the doubling of the hours of lesson to testify the enormous success of the initiative, but it is also and above all the remarkable interest inspired to the school person in charge, the enthusiasm of the young people that have so far taken part to the project, the passionate teachers’ and families support, as well as the scientific research results carried out in the project.
